Shadow of the Silk Road

Shadow of the Silk Road by Colin Thubron is probably the best travelogue I had read so far, with captivating flowing and poetic narrative the author travels the remnants of the Silk Road, crossing overlapping cultures and arbitrary national boundaries, quoting history and noting the contemporary life.  Fascinating read, I will be re-reading this excellent work, this time armed with a dictionary at hand.
